Shannon Shotokan Karate Club successes

Two young members of the Shannon Shotokan Karate Club recently returned with medals from the Piltown Invitation open competition held in Carrick-on-Suir. Raoul Murphy (12) and Jennifer Kasak (8) won bronze in the competition that attracted over 100 competitors in a variety of age groups from clubs across the country Brown belt Raoul competed well to obtain the third highest score in a traditional form of Karate called Kata. Newmarket Celtic secure sports funding appeal

Newmarket Celtic had a double boost after qualifying for the FAI Junior Cup semi-final away to Pike Rovers when they learned that their appeal for the Sports Capital Grant had been successful. According to Fine Gael TD Joe Carey, almost €240,000 in funding will greatly benefit sports clubs in the county over the coming year. In all, four Clare sports projects were successful in their appeals under this year’s Sports Capital Grant scheme.
