Christmas came early for clubs and organisations in Clare with €1.5 million coming their way from the 2017 Sport Capital Programme. Separately, ten GAA clubs in the county will share €118,600 in development grants from the organisation’s Munster Council.

Fine Gael TD and Minister of State, Pat Breen, confirmed that 58 sports facilities and projects in Clare will benefit from the funding in 2017.
In a statement Minister Breen said, “Funding of more than €1,497,000 has been allocated by my colleague Brendan Griffin, Minister of State at the Department of Transport, Tourism and Sport, and will assist with constructing and upgrading of outdoor facility spaces, training facilities, all-weather pitches and gyms, while also providing much needed sport and safety equipment to clubs and organisations all over Clare.”
“Sport and activity are not just essential for our physical health but its benefits to our mental wellbeing is also well documented. Furthermore, group sports and activities also allow people to come together and provide a social outlet for communities.”
Minister Breen has congratulated all clubs who worked so hard to secure funding this year and said he would encourage others sporting organisations who are planning development projects to avail of this funding in the future.
“Sports clubs do so much good work throughout the community and the Government recognises this and will continue to support the hard work of community groups and clubs in whatever way it can,” said Minister Breen.
