Gardaí in Clare arrested 13 people last week after a drugs seizure valued in excess of €32,000 as part of ‘Project Banner’, a two day initiative targeting criminal activity.
Planned searches were carried by Gardaí on five premises in Shannon and Ennis under the Misuse of Drugs Acts. Checkpoints aimed at intercepting and disrupting mobile criminal gangs were also carried out by Gardaí assisted by personnel from Revenue Customs Service as part of the operation which was conducted by units of the Garda’s Clare Division and a team of 24 trainees from Templemore Garda College.
Among the illegal drugs seized were cocaine, herbal cannabis and cannabis resin. In Ennis a man in his 30s was arrested when cocaine and cannabis were seized during a house search. The individual was detained for questioning at Ennis Garda station under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act. He was later released without charge and a file is being prepared for the Director of Public Prosecutions.
During the operation six people were arrested in respect of outstanding penal and bench warrants. Another six arrests were made under the Public Order Act following an incident in Ennis.
