Shannon’s Oakwood Hotel is once again in good hands having returned to family ownership with the Treacy family from Waterford adding the 4-star property to their growing portfolio.

Since taking over in May this year, Maria and Ed Treacy have not been sitting on their laurels. The newly rebranded Treacy’s Oakwood Hotel has already been awarded a prestigious 4-star rating by Fáilte Ireland.
The family business was founded by Jim and Bridget Treacy in Waterford City 40 years ago. Today the family own and manage hotels in Waterford, Enniscorthy, Carrickmacross and, of course, Treacy’s West County Hotel in Ennis.

To formally launch the new Treacys Oakwood Hotel, Marty Morrissey compered at a lunch for over 100 invited guests. Maria Treacy was joined by her extended family including her parents, Jim and Bridget, her brothers and sister and their children.
Marty Morrissey is well known as a proud Clare man and a loyal supporter of county football champions Kilmurry Ibrickane. He quickly lightened proceedings by inviting everyone to “a little bit of a Marty Love Trip”!
“This is going to be the best hotel for weddings, romances, and it begins here today,” said Marty who had glowing words for Jim and Bridget Treacy describing them as “dedicated, professional people and a brilliant couple.” According to Marty, people with the Treacy’s entrepreneurial skill must have it in their DNA because it is passed on in the family. “Maria, her husband Ed, and the Treacy family, purchased the Oakwood Hotel, and not alone does Maria have the entrepreneurial skill, but so too do brothers Anton, Patrick, John and sister Eileen, who are all here today.

“When I say entrepreneurial you could add the word ‘brilliant’ as well because each of these members of the Treacy family owns and manages their own hotels. Isn’t that remarkable?”
Marty noted that Maria and Ed have continued to invest in the 100 bedroom hotel. “This, to me, is an ideal venue, I know the location for many years and I think it’s going to be a huge addition to our local economy. As a Clareman, I’m particularly delighted that the Treacys have come here. It’s an ideal place for weddings, our international airport is only a mile down the road; if you want conferences, bookings, leisure or corporate activities, it’s all going to be available here – and this is only the beginning.”
Marty also paid tribute to the hard-working and dedicated staff led by a management team including general manager Una McMahon, sales manager Amanda Cronin, wedding and events coordinator Vicky O’Connell and head chef Martin Cronin. “I’m sure you will agree already that they have done a brilliant job,” he added.
Speaking personally, Marty said, “What the Treacy family are doing is just fantastic. To come to Clare, first to Ennis, and now Shannon. We need new people like the Treacys investing in jobs and we need to support our own in Clare Limerick and Tipperary.
On behalf of the entire team at Treacys Oakwood Hotel, General Manager Una McMahon said, “We were delighted with the investment and commitment of the Treacy family and I am so proud of the whole team and how they have embraced the positive changes. To be awarded 4-stars in time for the official launch is a fantastic achievement. We are excited to be part of this family-owned Treacy Hotel Group”.
For her part, Maria Treacy aims to put Treacys Oakwood Hotel on the map as the “go-to place” for luxurious accommodation, flavoursome food, a friendly welcome and more importantly, a family welcome for all guests.

Maria told the invited guests, “We’ve been made feel very welcome by everyone; the team here in the Oakwood, the guests and the locals alike so I’d just like to say thanks a lot to everyone.
“These are very exciting times here, we are the first hotel ever in Shannon to achieve 4-stars from Fáilte Ireland and I think that’s fantastic, especially for all the international and local businesses in the area.
“The Oakwood is a hotel that people will be proud of, that can offer the quality, standard and service that is expected by guests. As a family, we’re very much into supporting local business and we hope that local business will continue to give us their support.  We are also very much into supporting the local community, so we look forward to having many happy years here in the future,” said Maria.
