After eight very successful years, during which more than €250,000 was raised for charities throughout Clare and Limerick, the Ryan family and the committee behind the Pakie Ryan Memorial event are resting on their laurels after organising their final event.

Once again the sun shone on Newmarket-on-Fergus for the 2,512 registered participants who had travelled from across the country to join with Christy Ryan and his family in remembering Pakie, who sadly passed away in April 2009.

Over the years this has been a truly wonderful expression of generosity and cooperation, supported and driven by a very active committee and a tremendous community.

Remarkably, participants spanned all ages and came from all walks of life. They included babies pushed along in buggies, courageous people with disabilities and many others who joined out of solidarity or for the craic.

On the occasion of this final event it is indeed fitting to say very well done to ye all!
