It’s been a very rewarding time for Sean Ó Nuanáin, within days of receiving a special merit award from Wolfe Tones na Sionna, presented by Uachtarán Cumann Luthchleas Gael, Aogán Ó Fearghail, in recognition of his dedicated work for the club spanning 50 years, Sean has been informed that his Club na Sionna is set to receive an award from Glór na nGael.
Announcing the winners of its annual national awards for Irish language groups, Glór na nGael noted that Club na Sionna will receive the Duais Aitheantais, which is accompanied by a cheque for €1,000. The Glór na nGael awards recognise outstanding work undertaken by voluntary groups to provide services and to build Irish speaking communities.
Founding member of Club na Sionna, Seán Ó Nuanáin expressed his delight on receiving the news and thanked Glór na nGael for this recognition for the work they had achieved during 2016. “Tá sé sin thar barr” said Seán.
According to competition manager, Nóra Welby, “It was evident during this year’s adjudication that the Irish language voluntary sector is going from strength to strength with volunteers releasing tremendous achievements for their communities. We wish to congratulate all of the prize winners and wish them continued success.”
President of Ireland, Micheál D. Higgins will present Club na Sionna with their award at the annual Glór na nGael presentation in Maynooth on Saturday 22 April.
