With the golf season about to get into full swing and golfers returning to the fairways, Shannon Golf Club manager Mike Corry is busily getting the course in pristine order after the ravishes of the winter season.
“January and February are busy months in any golf club,” says Mike adding that in Shannon the ground staff have been busily putting in new tee box surfaces on the men’s 1st and 14th holes and on the ladies’ 8th; all roadways and paths have been repaired; trees pruned and, not forgetting where a golf game is won or lost, greens’ maintenance has been a priority.
“It’s an exciting time of year. Winter leagues are in full swing, the clubhouse is filling up again with a lot of banter and rivalry before and after games and with team selections underway our members are getting to grips with their game to ensure they hit the ball where it’s meant to go.
“Now heading into our 51st year, Shannon is a busy club but we are always open to new membership. We have a very active membership at all levels – men’s, ladies’ and juniors’ and we pride ourselves in spending a lot of time with the juniors as they are our future. We have some very promising players who brought home some great wins last year.
“Golf is but one aspect of Shannon Golf Club. We have wonderful committees who organise a range of non-golfing social activities and fundraisers throughout the year and this has gained us a reputation for being a very friendly and sociable club.”
