A team of Shannon anglers were crowned champions at the recent annual Munster fly fishing championships which were held at Lough Leane in Killarney.

Shannon & District Anglers Club had strong competition from 146 anglers from all across Munster. Winning is a remarkable achievement for the Shannon anglers who represent a relatively new and small club but their skills proved decisive on the day. Based on their total fish tally on the day, team members Ed Shanagher and Johnny Moroney are now eligible for the Interpro’s championship scheduled for autumn of this year. Gearoid Kirwan is on the standby list should other anglers be unavailable closer to the time.

According to club secretary Paul Lee, the members are delighted and very proud of the team’s achievement and wish them every success later in the year.

In general club news, Shannon & District Anglers Club plan to host fly-casting lessons on Wednesday 7th of June. This class is open to the public or anyone with a passing interest and will meet outside Wolfe Tones GAA Club at 7pm.

The next club competition will be held on Sunday 16th of July on Lough Corrib For further information on the club please contact the chairperson at mfcmurphy@gmail.com or write to the secretary at paulflee71@gmail.com.
