Since its formation in 1978, Shannon Musical Society has grown from strength to strength over the last hugely rewarding 40 years. To mark the milestone anniversary, past and present members recently held a celebratory dinner dance.
On the night both Derek Barrett and Francis Maloney were honoured with life membership of the Shannon Musical Society for their incredible dedication, work and commitment.
According to SMS chairperson Maria Kelly, “It was an easy decision for the committee to make. Francis and Derek have both worked tirelessly for many years both on and off the stage.
“They have been a huge inspiration to all members and we really wanted to honour them. We were also delighted to have four of our founder members present on the night,” Maria added.
Shannon Musical Society will stage its 40th-anniversary production The Wiz from the 11th-17th February 2018. Rehearsals are underway at the moment under the watchful eye of director Jessica Bray, musical director Carmel Griffin and choreographer Pamela McGlynn.
Everyone involved in the production is really looking forward to once again bringing a fun-filled family show to their audiences in the New Year.
