Clare County Council is campaigning for people to shop local on the basis that every €10 spent in County Clare will generate €24 of benefit to the local economy.

If you love your country and your county then the message is clear, Shop Local and please spend as much as you can in Clare this Christmas and into 2018. I have always promoted the shop local concept so here is a selection of gift ideas available close to home.
Maloney Hardware in SkyCourt has great cut-price offers on Christmas trees starting at just €25, as well as lights and decorations. There are also great gift ideas for the DIY person at home with power tools and finely crafted hand tools from Leatherman and Victorinox, call in and see the full range.
While in SkyCourt you may want to check out Rx+ Pharmacy for their extensive range of fragrances as well as beauty and skincare products. There’s something for all budgets that any girlfriend, wife or mother will be delighted with.
Ballycasey Craft Centre is home to Bit of A Do, one of the very best children’s clothes shops in the region. Diane carefully selects the cream of designer brands which are offered at the best possible prices.
From baby wear to young teens you will be amazed at the style available in Bit of A Do’s pre-Christmas sale with bargains at up to 50% off.
While there pay a visit to Gleeson Goldsmiths where you are certain to find a beautiful jewellery gift for the love of your life. Brian and staff will help you choose from a glittering collection of earrings, necklaces, bracelets, rings and more.
Couples looking for engagement rings or wedding bands will get exclusive treatment with a private viewing room available to see some gorgeous pieces.
Also in Ballycasey, Angel Flowers is reputedly one of the best floral designers in this locality and the best place to go for floral arrangements that will brighten up every Christmas table. Best to get your order in early though!
Hopping over to Ennis and our good friend Brendan Reidy who owns and runs Ennis Home Furniture in the Quin Road Business Park, near the railway station.
The shop is an Aladdin’s Cave of lamps, mirrors, rugs and occasional furnishings. Treat yourself to a new mattress for Christmas as you will find the most comfortable range of beds and bedding in the county.
Returning to Shannon, Sean Hillery Pharmacy in SkyCourt is offering deluxe gift sets for ladies and gents that include some of the most iconic brands on the market including Clarins, Vichy, La Roche Posay.
This Christmas if you’re not sure what to give, then the best bet is a Gift Voucher that doesn’t have to be redeemed right away.
You will also find Gift Vouchers available in Treacys Oakwood Hotel and the Shannon Knights that can be used for dinners, lunches etc.
My favourite butchers, Morrissey’s, also has Gift Vouchers available that could go towards a succulent New Year’s dinner for the lucky recipient!
Remember though to Shop Local where at all possible, your custom will always be appreciated by local businesses and it’s relatively easy to find the perfect gift in Shannon, Ennis or elsewhere in our county.
By shopping local, even if it’s only for a small gift, your contribution will help save jobs and small businesses in County Clare. Now that’s something we can all agree on!
