Wolfe Tones 50th Jubilee celebrations continue with a massive Fun Day on the club grounds on Sunday 30th April. Participants will take a brief break from their activities at around 8.30pm to tune in to RTE 1 as their club renovations will feature on the ‘At Your Service’ programme with the Brennan brothers, Francis and John.
The events are part of a year long celebration at Wolfe Tones na Sionna marking the club’s 50th Jubilee anniversary. The Fun Day on Sunday April 30th begins from 3.00pm and is a community event admission is free.
According to club chairman Mike Riordan all activities will be suspended briefly at 8.30pm so that everyone can view the Brennan brothers on RTE1’s ‘At Your Service” programme which will feature the recent refurbishment of the Goalpost Bar and club grounds.
Helping to make the Fun Day a greet success will be members of the Gardaí, Shannon Fire Service, Bunratty Search and Rescue as well as a display of vintage cars. There will also be a kids’ area featuring a puppet show, Jenga, Buzz-off, Connect 4, face painting, and arts and crafts. Youngsters will just love the Teddy Bears’ Picnic – so bring along their teddy!
Older kids will have a laugh with bubble soccer, and the bucking bronco, and can also test their strength or enter the crossbar challenges. In addition there will be a 1960’s fancy dress to recall the year when Wolfe Tones was founded and prizes for the best dressed. Plus there will be a Bonny Baby competition, Glamorous Granny contest, tea rooms , BBQ and many more fun games.
On Monday 1st May, the day after the fun day, Wolfe Tones will host Shannon’s Fittest Family with contestants battling it out for the title. Each family will have four participants, including one female and all must be aged 14 and over. Great prizes and a trophy will be presented to the winning family.
Local man James Sexton, who is co-creator of the hit TV show, will be present for the event beginning at 3.00pm. This will be followed by a barbecue and music from the Acoustic Ninjas will follow in the Goalpost.
